“Invictus” was one of my most anticipated reads for 2017 and let me tell you, it did not disappoint.

Rating: 5/5 Stars

You’ve probably seen photos of this book all over my Bookstagram account already but finally, we’re going to talk about it. Thank you to the ever amazing Little Brown & Company for the ARC I received at YallWest. I’m also the proud owner of the BEAUTIFUL hardcover as well.

Before I dive into the review I wanted to talk about why it took me so long to read. Usually, I read books VERY quickly. Especially the books I love. “Invictus” has taken me at least 2 months to read.

Say whaaaaa??

I know right? Two months to read a book is unheard of. This happened for two reasons. 1) I loved it so much I didn’t want it to end. 2) My life has been ridiculously busy and finding time to read is VERY hard. I’ll talk about that more in another post. Now onto the review!!!!

“Invictus” by Ryan Graudin Synopsis:
Farway Gaius McCarthy was born outside of time. The son of a time traveler from 2354 AD and a gladiator living in ancient Rome, Far’s very existence defies the laws of nature. All he’s ever wanted was to explore history for himself, but after failing his entrance exam into the government program, Far will have to settle for a position on the black market-captaining a time-traveling crew to steal valuables from the past.
During a routine heist on the sinking Titanic, Far meets a mysterious girl named Eliot who always seems to be one step ahead of him. Eliot has secrets-big ones-that will affect Far’s life from beginning to end. Armed with the knowledge that history is not as steady as it seems, she will lead Far and his team on a race through time to set things right before the clock runs out.
Spoiler-Free Review:
LOVE IT. LOVE IT. LOVE IT. LOVE IT. LOVE IT x infinity. Review done. haha just kidding.  It’s hard to write a review about a book I loved this much because I want to dive into all the details. However, I am going to refrain from giving any spoilers because this is a book you need to discover on your own. The only thing I didn’t love about the book… is that it ended. I wanted more of the Invictus crew and I wanted to know what was going to happen next to them.  *psst* Hey, Ryan Graudin, do you think you could do a second book?

“Invictus” truly makes the concept of time travel seem plausible and real. The events in history that the crew visits are incredibly detailed and it seems like you’re right there with them. As a result, you truly feel as though it would be possible to live through these events again.

Now, let’s talk about the crew of the Invictus since I keep bringing them up. Graudin does an amazing job bringing these characters to life. From the moment you meet them you fall in love. And let’s not forget about Saffron. Saffron is a red panda (look them up, they are ADORABLE) and hangs out with the crew. If you don’t like red pandas after meeting Saffron what is wrong with you? Haha. By the end of the book, your heart has been taken on an emotional journey with these characters and you truly feel as though they are apart of your family too. I cannot wait to hear what you think of them. I can’t even choose a favorite because they all have something special about them that I adore. Okay, wait, I lied. My favorite character might be Saffron. lol *insert pic of red panda now*

Cute, right?
I’m going to wrap this up because I feel like I keep rambling to avoid spoiling anything for you. The truth is, you need this book in your life. If you have ever been a fan of the TV show “Fringe” then you’ll devour this book. The concept of time travel, parallel universes…etc is beyond fascinating and plays a huge part in this story. And if you don’t know what Fringe is, then I suggest watching it immediately, but also know this book is perfect for all lovers of sci-fi, talk of the future, time travel, or anyone who just loves good writing.

Please, comment down below what you thought of the book…I need someone to discuss this with asap!!

And now, I am onto my next read: “All The Crooked Saints” by Maggie Stiefvater. I’ve only begun the first chapter today and I’m already loving it. She’s also one of my favorite authors so I have high expectations for this story. Until next time, Happy Reading, Book Lovelies! <3
